On Saturday, February 22nd, members of the Nebraska City High School speech team competed in the Eastern Midlands Conference for the final time before moving to the Trailblazer Conference next year.
The following students medalled at the meet:
Ellie Higgins was the conference champion in both of her events: humorous and serious prose. Valere Bennie was conference runner-up in persuasive speaking, while Sarah Murray was 4th place in persuasive speaking. Additionally, Sarah made finals with her duet acting partner, Kelly Gonzalez, and placed 4th place. Lillian Frields and Christian Tietz placed 3rd in duet acting, and Lilly and Christian placed 4th in their oral interpretation of drama group with fellow members Trey Pursel, Eric Poggemeyer, and Eli McNeely. Sydney Blum rounded out the team's conference medalists with a 6th place finish in informative speaking.
The team is less than a month away from competing at the district speech meet, which determines who earns a trip to the state speech meet. In order to qualify for state, an individual must place in the top 3 at their district meet for Class B competition.
